Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Service-oriented architecture (SOA) has become an important topic for financial services organizations, offering new levels of flexibility, adaptability and cost savings. This book cuts through the confusion by clearly describing SAP's approach to SOA -- the Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA), shared with leading banks and insurance companies. By illustrating the principles and vision behind ESA, this invaluable guide shows you exactly how it can benefit your financial services firm. In a concise and easy-to-read format, the authors introduce you to ESA and explain exactly how it works. In addition, you get a detailed description of the key steps that financial services institutions need to take in order to successfully deploy ESA.

3 out of 5 stars Good overview but details are missing...   January 11, 2007

The book introduces the ESA concept quite well but leaves a lot of technical questions unanswered. But this is ok, I think, due to the fact, that the Business Process Platform as well as the ESA concept itself is still under construction. The roadmap to introduce and ESA in an organization is discussed but on a very high level.

I missed more industry related examples for services etc. and an outlook of how the industry solutions for banking and insurance will evolve in the future.

If you don't have books about ESA / Enterprise SOA yet and you would like to get an introduction to the topic, this book might be a good choice. Otherwise books like "Enterprise SOA" by Woods and Mattern include most of the discussed topics already.
